The Time I Let My Boundaries Get Crossed

For the Pretty Girls in Business
By BJANELL

When you're in a tough space desperate to make things work, radiating brilliance, and offering well-aligned energy don’t underestimate how others see that in you. They see your dedication. They know you’re willing to show up and give your best. But here's the truth:
That’s exactly when your boundaries are the most vulnerable.

And when those lines get crossed, it creates chaos. Suddenly, you're off your path scrambling to get back on track, questioning your own gifts, and trying to clean up messes that never should’ve been yours in the first place.

So, for all the business babes who are building, growing, or just trying to get back aligned this one’s for you. Here are four truths I had to learn (the hard way) so you don’t have to fumble your future over someone else’s confusion.

1. Know Exactly What Services You Offer

If you’re multi-talented, I get it, it’s tempting to say yes to every opportunity. Especially when your experience spans multiple lanes. But let me be real:
If the role doesn’t fit your vision from the start, it won’t fit later on.

The fastest way to burn out is to try to accommodate people who aren’t even your ideal client. Stick to your title. Stand-on your offerings. Get clear on what you do and communicate it with confidence.

2. Write a Real Job Description (Not Just Buzzwords)

"Marketing, Sales, Admin" is not a job description. You need to design your role. Describe exactly what you do, for whom, and how it plays out day to day.

This is your boundary. This is how you get paid your worth. And this is how aligned clients understand what working with you actually looks like.

3. Protect Your Energy—and Your Phone

Read this twice: Stop letting unpaid conversations drain your paid power.
Every call, text, and DM costs something—your energy, your clarity, your time.

Phone calls should be reserved for paid clients or those moving through your official onboarding pipeline. Otherwise, keep it professional and stick to email.
That’s your documentation. That’s your filter. And more importantly, that’s your protection.

And if you get off a call feeling tense, foggy, or drained? Pay attention. That’s your spirit speaking up before your business suffers.

4. Build Your Onboarding Process Like a Boss

You’re not here to freestyle every time someone wants your services.
You need a streamlined, repeatable onboarding process that filters out the fluff and locks in aligned energy from day one.

When you create your system with your dream clients in mind, you won’t have to bend, shrink, or re-explain. You’ll be in position to get to the bag and keep your peace.

Here’s what I’ve learned: In the early stages of business, misalignment comes easy especially if you haven’t done the inner work yet.

But if you want clients to respect your time, pay your worth, and show up ready to work you have to do that for yourself first.

Define your role
Set your process
Clarify your audience
Make it pretty—and make it profitable.

Let this be your sign to stop bending and start branding. You are the business. So, act like it.

Now clear the invoice and get to work.

With pretty power,
